Now based in Toronto, Ontario, DeVaughn David has enjoyed a fulfilling career as a Pianist and Teacher. He began learning to play the piano at the age of five, and spent his highschool career being an Accompanist and Performer. His love of music became a lifelong passion. DeVaughn graduated as a piano major from the University of Western Ontario, where he also obtained a Bachelor of Education degree.
Since then DeVaughn has gained over 35 years of experience playing professionally. His style is versatile - Honkytonk to Jazz to Pop to Broadway. He is noted for his ability to take requests, having over 500 tunes at his fingertips. DeVaughn has been the resident piano player for dinner and cocktail music at three major Kitchener-Waterloo hotels and restaurants. In Toronto he has performed at the Wintergarden Theatre as an accompanist for Karen K. Edissi, and at Centro's restaurant, the King Edward and Royal York Hotels, the Valhalla Inn, the Inn On The Park and the Gardner Glass Museum as a cocktail pianist. He frequently lends his talents to weddings, bar mitzvahs, corporate events, cocktail parties, fashion shows, art galleries, and other festive occasions.
DeVaughn was the National Piano Player for the Canadian Women's Gymnastics Team from 1978 to 1980, and from 1974 to 1980 accompanied them to World Cup competitions in France and China, and the Pan American games in Puerto Rico and Canada. He arranged and created specialized individual music to complement each gymnast in her floor exercise routine, which he performed live in competition.
DeVaughn also taught Instrumental and Vocal Music for 30 years, and was a Department Head for 27 years at Kitchener-Waterloo Collegiate and Vocational School.
